For collectors of any kind, there are always those items that
are much sought after, but nearly impossible to find. If they're
lucky enough to finally locate them, the price is often
exorbitant or there are some other restrictions which inhibit
their ability to secure them. With a good deal of patience and
persistence, however, even the rarest of these collectibles can
be found and purchased without as much difficulty as one might
imagine. One simply needs to know where to look.
In the past, ...

People often find the idea of starting an antique collection daunting. Since there are literally thousands of things to collect, many find it hard to choose what collection to start. Moreover, people are afraid to delve into collecting antiques because they think that it is expensive and a time consuming hobby. In recent years there have been discussions among collectors
suggesting that the internet may actually be hurting the sports
cards and collectibles hobby. They point to decreased card show
attendance and the struggles of brick and mortar stores as
evidence of the demise of the hobby. I am here to tell you that
they are wrong. Not only was collecting not ruined by the
internet, it was saved by it. That's right, the internet saved

Millions of people have made a hobby of collecting items of one
sort or another, but some take it to a higher level. These
collectors view their collections as more than just an
accumulation of trinkets that they happen to enjoy; to them,
it's a business, and they're not in it to lose money. For those
who collect diecast models, making a profit can be a challenge,
unless you know the ropes of how to effectively collect pieces
and then apply the necessary strategies to resell at an
increased ...

A few months ago I wrote an article named 'Signed vs. Unsigned -
Buying Art, Pottery and Collectibles'. The basic premise of the
article was my own opinion about 'Should you pay the price for
signed jewelry, art and collectibles, as opposed to buying what
you love, whether signed or unsigned?'. Since writing that
article, I have read in one of my many collectible newsletters
and magazines that the 'hot' new collectible trend is buying
unsigned and unknown artist and artisan items. I ...

What causes us to become collectors?
For some of us, it's as simple as finally being able to afford
to have that certain thing that, as a child, we always wanted
but were unable to attain due to a lack of finances. Perhaps we
dreamed of it, longed for it, and hoped for it so much, that
now, as adults having the money to buy it...we simply can't get
enough of it! For my mother-in-law it was dolls. Now, in her
seventies she has many dolls! Some she has purchased for
herself, but most have been ...

Collectors of resin models will know that correct storage, cleaning and display is essential to keep your prize possessions in good condition. Models which are neglected can become dirty or damaged, so caring for your collectibles is vital for maintaining a collection's aesthetic appeal and monetary value.
When choosing a place to show off your models, select a location that will minimise your collection's exposure to potentially damaging environmental factors. A warm, dry location that is ...

The Civil War still has a fascination for a large number of Americans, largely due to the conflict not only being the largest to take place on American soil, but also the only one that pitched cousin against cousin, and in some cases brother against brother.
The popularity of Civil War collectibles is just one indication of this fascination for a very unique and significant part of American history. This one conflict caused more deaths per head of population than any country suffered during ...

Kathy Schweer doesn't consider herself an expert in selling collectibles. But on Wednesday she was trying to sell several valued items at the Treasure Hunters Roadshow at the Super 8 in Cape Girardeau. While she didn't sell her silver coins or toothpick holders like she had hoped, the Cape Girardeau resident received $35 for a chain purse.'I got more out of it than I thought I would,' said Schweer, who had never sold items at a similar show before.
